I was standing just meters from Alison Wonderland. Wave upon wave of sonic concrete, shook me to the core. This was a day that would not soon forget.
The day had started drearily, with a relatively early start for me. I drove to my friend Matt's house and we drove up together. It's thanks to Matt and his band The Blackbird Collective that I got access to this festival with a no access barred Artist Pass. The first band of the day on the Unicorn stage was a local act, IVY. Their fuzz crazed sound reminded me of Gary Clark Jr. The next act was The Blackbird Collective. A high energy, varied set with highlights being "Moving Earth and Building Towers" from their debut EP and their cover of "Royals".
After sets by the eccentric Daniel Lee Kendal and Folk outfit Winterbourne, Pepa Knight took the stage with an eclectic assortment of instruments and outfits. Previously unknown to me, Pepa's unique sound had me wanting more and more.
The highlights of the day for me both as a music fan and a photographer were during the last three acts of the day on the main stage. The Griswolds, Jungle Giants and Alison Wonderland all delivered energetic performances, something that is a joy to be able to capture.
